Overview
Concept
Depot Walk is an intimate 32 townhome development located in the heart of Orange, California. The projects name is a reference to the close proximity to transportation, with the Orange Metrolink station just steps away. Most residents leave the cars in the garage and use public transportation for their commuting needs.
Depot Walk has taken many steps towards being green. Eco-friendly principals were implemented in regards to solar power, site selection and responsible choices of interior and exterior features.
Solar cells are located on the roof of every townhome at Depot Walk and provide up to 50% of the units electric needs. One neat feature of the system is that residents can log into a performance monitoring system to see exactly how much energy they are using and what percentage is coming from the solar panels.
Depot Walk is an Infill site, meaning that no green space was destroyed in order to construct the community. The community was specifically chosen to be located next to a source of public transportation so that residents could drastically reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
The construction for Depot Walk was carefully planned out in order to minimize the impact on the environment both during the building and after the project was completed. Eco-friendly features include:
- Construction waste levels kept below 10% for the project
- Permeable concrete and parking stalls replenish the water table and lessen the impact on the storm sewers.
- Plantings chosen which require low levels of water use
- Irrigation system linked to local weather and only used when necessary
Neighborhood
Depot Walk is located in Old Town Orange, a popular area of Orange County which is known for its small town feel. Antique shops, restaurants, galleries and nightlife is just steps from the community. There is also a local 18 acre park which offers softball, picnicking and more.
Major shopping centers and attractions are a short drive or train ride away. Angle Stadium, beaches and Disneyland are all within a few miles of the community.
Homes
The Homes at Depot Walk are three story townhomes and life/work spaces, which range from 1,227 to 2,010 square feet. The homes interior spaces flow very nicely and large windows create a very nice sense of spaciousness. Every home features a private deck and an attached two car garage.
