Overview
Concept
Located just outside of West Hollywood, near the Melrose Heights Fashion District, is The Lofts at Cherokee Studios, the only LEED Platinum Loft building in Southern California. Cherokee calls itself the greenest residential building in California.
12 live/work lofts make up the building, which has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to eco-friendly building practices. Some of the green building features include:
- A 20 Kilowatt solar panel on the roof, providing nearly 50% of the energy requirements
- A large green roof for residents to enjoy
- Extensive use of high efficiency appliances & heating/cooling systems
- Passive solar design for abundant daylight
- Use of many recycled building materials & waste which was deferred from landfills
The Lofts at Cherokee Studios is truly a place where you could feel good about living. The address is also full of history, as over 300 gold and platinum albums were cut on location at Cherokee Studios by most of the worlds best known artists. The building seeks to honor that tradition or music excellence, but including music studios in several of the lofts.
Neighborhood
Located on Fairfax Ave, just a block off of Melrose Ave, Cherokee is in the heart of one of Los Angeles's most popular neighborhoods. The building boasts an impressive WalkScore of 94, which means just about every daily convenience is within .25 miles of the building.
From the private balconies or shared roof deck, residents will enjoy views of the Hollywood Hills, Century City, and Downtown LA.
Homes
The Lofts at Cherokee Studios features 12 live/work lofts, which are about as eco-friendly as they come. Live/work lofts are generally regarded as being very green, because they essentially eliminate the need for a daily commute. The building contains several different styles of lofts including; loft flats, tri-level lofts, townhomes, and penthouses. Starting with floor to ceiling windows, all units are bright and airy. Covering the windows are unique double façade blinds, which work to let light in and change the esthetic of the building. The blinds are perforated, so they function to let light and air in, while being opened or closed.
The professionally designed and stylish kitchens contain energy star appliances, formaldehyde-free cabinetry, and recycled countertops. Baths contain recycled counters, tile, and shower surrounds. They also feature dual flush toilets and very attractive low flow faucetry.
The living and working spaces are very open and full of natural sunlight. Wide plank floors are stained with zero VOC oil, which works to improve air quality and keep maintenance costs low. Every unit features a private balcony, which provides striking views of the surrounding hills and skyline.
Transportation
The location of Cherokee Lofts makes it perfect for walking or using public transportation. The building is located along two major transit lines and scores a WalkScore of 94. Extensive bike storage is available, as well as an electric car charging station for each unit. If travelling by car, the Santa Monica Blvd can be used to quickly get to the 101 or 405.
