Overview
Concept
Quay Valley will be a large planned community of approximately 50,000 homes located between Los Angeles and San Francisco along Interstate 5. Quay Valley aims to be the first entirely solar power development in the world, setting a new standard for sustainable living.
The Goal of Quay Valley is to build a self sustaining community focused on the principals of new-urbanism, which will be applied in a rural environment. According to preliminary documents, Quay Valley would include the following features:
- More than 30 new schools to accommodate the ~150,000 residents
- A vibrant town center and river walk
- Regional shopping center and destination resort hotels
- Over 500 acres of lakes and rivers created and 50% reuse of fresh water
- Thousands of acres of sustainable organic agricultural farms
- A large speedway complex, featuring a 1 mile racetrack and seating for 42,000
- An 184 acre research park, which would be used to research green technologies and potentially as a university in the future.
The impressive solar system will feature three 100 acre solar arrays, which will produce 600 megawatts of power. Once completed, the entire community, both homes and businesses, will run on the power generated by the panels. Excess power will likely be sold back to local municipalities.
An extensive water conservation plan has been proposed. The community will use creeks, wetlands and lakes, instead of sewer pipes to handle rainwater runoff. An onsite water reclamation and purification facility will treat wastewater to the highest standards which reusing reclaimed water for irrigation. The community will feature native plants and landscapes which dramatically cuts down on demand for irrigation.
Homes
Quay Valley will feature homes built in small neighborhoods which will encourage social activity and feature numerous gathering spaces. Homes will have large front porches and sidewalks which will encourage neighbors to come outside and interact with one another.
No specific information has been released on the layout or price of the homes at this point. Please click the Request A Brochure button above to be kept aware of any new information as it is made available.
Transportation
Commuters at Quay Valley would drive energy efficient cars, or could use the water taxi which would travel on streams that connect all of the communities neighborhoods.
The community is located along several miles of I-5 in Kings County. San Francisco and Los Angeles are 2.5 hours away via car. The beach and Sequoia National Park are both located about 1.5 hours away.
