Overview
Concept
Avington Park is a luxury, 42 estate, green development currently being built just outside of Orlando, Florida. The 200+ acre property is lush with preserved trees and native plants spread throughout the community. Each private home site will be 3 -5 acres in size, and will be large enough to support proper solar orientation for every home.
The mission of the community is to create a place of eco-conscious residents, who want to enjoy a rural luxury lifestyle, while being just minutes from the conveniences of a large city. The property in Mt. Dora, was selected for its natural beauty, but was falling into despair before the developer stepped in. They have carefully decided upon many changes which will forever change the history of the beautiful property.
Many eco-friendly steps have been taken at Avington Park:
- Six thousand trees have been preserved on the property, including the beautiful canopy of trees along the entrance
- Only 8% of the property will be built on, leaving the remainder to thrive in its natural beauty
- A butterfly and bird preserve will be created to enhance the ecosystem
- Native plants will be reintroduced throughout the community
- A Gopher Tortoise habitat will be protected on the site
Avington Park will also offer a very high level of amenities to its residents. Tennis Courts, miles of walking paths, and an equestrian facility will be available. There will also be a community pavilion and community gathering places, where neighbors can socialize and enjoy the natural environment.
Neighborhood
Next door to Avington Park is a strawberry and tree farm which offers, hay rides, Christmas tree picking, and fresh strawberries all summer.
The community is located just a few minutes drive from downtown Mt. Dora, which offers small shops and restaurants. Within 5 minutes of the community are also grocery and hardware stores, golf courses and equestrian facilities. There are boating and fishing facilities within 10 minutes of the community.
Homes
The developers of Avington Park have done their part in making the community green and they are committed to giving the 42 homeowners the tools necessary to make sure their homes are green as well. Avington Park will offer educational support for each resident. The materials will include how to properly orient the home for passive solar design, how to use green building practices, and what kind of native plants and trees are currently on the property.
All homes are required to be built to Energy Star® rated guidelines and will use low VOC paints in order to protect the indoor air quality. Architectural guidelines dictate that homes will be at least 3,000 square feet and will be built to one of several attractive styles including: Georgian, French Eclectic, & Mediterranean Revival.
Transportation
Travel outside of the community will most likely be done by automobile. Downtown Mt. Dora is just a 5 minute drive away. Downtown Orlando is approximate a 35 minute trip by car, while the airport and theme parks are about 45 minutes away.
