Overview
Concept
Located in is the community of Oakland Park, a 500-home green development which is built according to the model established in the early twentieth century. Homes are built in the colonial style, with large front porches and sit close to the street. Sidewalks are wide and encourage residents to visit with one another and they stroll by. There are also numerous gathering places, which encourage outdoor recreation and social interaction.
Oakland park also looks to honor the natural landscape of the area. There was minimal land moved during the planning for the community, which embraces the natural lay of the land. Yards and common areas contain native landscaping and turf, which does not require excessive watering or fertilization to stay beautiful.
The community is Florida Green Building Coalition Certified. This mean that not only is the natural landscape preserved, but the homes are also built to very high standards of energy efficiency and promote healthy living. More on the home features below.
Neighborhood
Life at Oakland Park will be reminiscent of that of communities built in the early twentieth century. There are public spaces and square where residents can get groceries or mail a letter, parks and a community center which will be perfect for neighborhood gatherings and private parties, and bike paths and a nearby lake which encourage physical activity and outdoor recreation.
One of the main ideas of an eco-friendly community is encouraging residents to go outdoors and enjoy the beautiful surroundings in which they live. Oakland Park certainly will become a model community for this reason alone.
Homes
Homes at Oakland Park are either free standing single family homes or duplex style attached homes. The homes, which range from approximately 1,800 to 3,200 square feet are built in the colonial style, which embraces clean symmetric design, clean lines, large porches and outdoor areas, and spacious interior rooms. Garages are rear loading, which is both safer for children and more esthetically pleasing form the street.

Within the community, however, residents can easily get around on foot or bike. There are shops, cafes, and grocery stores within walking distance of every home.
