Overview
Concept
Emerald is a new construction project in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago consisting of two 12 story buildings. Overall there will be 212 units and several retail spaces on the ground floor.
The buildings two story lobby is quite impressive. The lobby connects the two towers that make up Emerald. There are several different rooms all designed to be used frequently by the buildings residents. The "Green Room" is a living area, and contains recycled furniture. There is also a conference room, a spacious bar area referred to as "Club Emerald", and a fitness center. The fitness center is made from 30% recycled materials.
Emerald is not seeking LEED or any other certification at this time. Many of the finishes used within the building are recognized by LEED and the building is making many strides towards sustainability which include:
- A high efficiency 4-pipe heating and cooling system, which allows residents year round access to temperature control.
- A lobby with many sustainable finishes, including the flooring, countertops and furniture.
Neighborhood
Emerald is located in the West Loop on Green Street. Within just a few blocks of the building are dozens of restaurants, bars, galleries and a grocery store. "Restaurant Row" on Randolph street is right around the corner. Greek Town, which contains authentic Greek restaurants and shopping is just down the street as well.
Homes
Emerald offers one bedroom, one bathroom and two bedroom, two bathroom plans which vary in square footage from 765 to 1,297. Every unit has large floor to ceiling windows which not only allow for tremendous views, but are also highly efficient and encourage passive solar heating. Due to the low lying surrounding buildings, 80% of the units will have access to skyline views. Each unit contains at least one balcony so residents can enjoy private outdoor space.
Emerald units will feature a high level of interior finishes and there are a variety of eco-friendly options available as well. Bamboo floors and low VOC paints are standard in every unit. Bathrooms include marble floors, a separate tub and shower, and a flat screen TV.
Transportation
One of the greenest features of Emerald is its close proximity to transportation, shopping, and restaurants. The building is located just steps from Halsted street, which features many restaurants and Greek Town is just a few blocks away. Aside from being close to both a Green Line stop on the "EL" and being near several bus routes, the building is within easy walking distance of downtown Chicago. Many residents will surely choose to walk to work on the nicer weather days.
For the car dependant, parking is available in the building for an extra fee.
