Concept
Briar Chapel is master planned community of over 1,500 acres located just outside of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The community has been designed to protect and celebrate the natural environment through the use of smart planning and building processes. 900 aces of parks and open space have been protected and will be forever enjoyed by the residents of Briar Chapel.
The planning of such a large community brought out the best in the developer, Newland Homes. They have made several very responsible decisions, surrounded around the idea of building a truly eco-conscious community. They include:
- The preservation of hundreds of acres of trees; and design of streets, to keep current tree beds intact
- An extensive system of parks and trails, designed to promote outdoor activity and environmental awareness
- Water management strategies, which includes the use of gray water for community irrigation, and retention of storm water
- Native landscaping is used for residences and community amenities, which dramatically limits the amount of water needed to keep the community looking beautiful
All homes at Briar Chapel will be built according to the local Green Building Initiative standards. The homes will be significantly more energy efficient than a comparably built home.
A non-profit organization, Briar Chapel Life, has been established to promote the communities social and cultural activities, education, and environmental pursuits.
