Concept
Lennon Hills describes themselves as the North Carolinas first green golf community. Located in Brunswick County, just minutes from the ocean, this community of 250 homes offers many eco-friendly features.
Overall strategies employed during the home building process focus on reducing heating and cooling costs, reducing electrical usage, reducing water usage, and reducing the environmental impact of the homes. The community has worked with the National Association of Home Builders, NAHB GREEN program to achieve Gold certification for each of their homes.
Neighborhood
Lennon Hills is set up in 4 phases, with townhomes and single family homes which outline the 9 hole, ecologically sensitive, golf course. Some homes have golf course views, while others back up to beautiful native trees. There are a few ponds spread out throughout the community and a clubhouse with swimming pool.
Other features of the neighborhood include low impact nature trails for walking and biking, community protected space, and abundant wildlife. There is also a convenient community recycling and composting area.
Homes
Lennon Hills offers single family homes and townhomes. Townhomes start around $230,000 while single family homes start around $300,000.
Homes have been certified as Gold by the National Association of Home Builders Green Program.
Green Features of the homes include:
- Energy Star appliances
- Tankless how water heaters
- Low flow faucetry
- Recycled content cabinetry and decking
- Semi pervious concrete driveways and patios
Yards contain xeriscape, which is drought tolerant native landscaping. Xeriscape can significantly reduce the amount of water a home uses in a year. Between water use reduction, and semi-pervious building strategies, the community looks to reduce sewer impact by about 27,000 gallons per home each year.
There is a control panel where homeowners can monitor their electrical usage. Homes can also be equipped with solar panels, for additional energy savings. Overall, homes will use approximately 60% less energy and 40% less water than a comparable home.
