The Concept

Northwest Crossing, a new sustainable community located in Bend, Oregon, describe themselves as anything but "cookie cutter." This is because the wide variety of architecture and foliage found throughout the development creates a unique feeling around every corner. The community layout takes a page out of the new urbanism book, with frequent roundabouts, rear garage parking, and wide sidewalks, designed to promote social interaction among residents. Parks, schools, and shops are found within walking distance of nearly every home.

Bend, located in central Oregon, is a town of about 70,000 and is growing quickly. The scenic landscape and beautiful weather attract outdoor enthusiasts, retirees, and families from all over the nation. The city boasts frequent sunshine and a mild climate along with plenty of skiing, fishing and golf.

The Neighborhood

Northwest Crossing is a nearly 500-acre property and boasts many large-scale amenities. The property features two schools, a supermarket, nearly 100 acres of commercial and light industrial space and 35 acres of dedicated parks and open space. The neighborhood center provides retail space and dining.

The Homes

Upon completion, Northwest Crossing will be made up of nearly 1200 townhomes and single family homes. Every home in Northwest Crossing is required to meet a minimum criteria of Earth Advantage™ Certified, with some dwellings going far above and beyond that standard. Northwest Crossing is the first community in the region to have a home meet the LEED Platinum standards and the community is home to the 2007 National Association of Home Builders Green Building Award.

At Northwest Crossing you can choose your site and pick one of twenty certified green builders to construct your dream home, or choose from one of the unique pre-built homes that Northwest Crossing has thoughtfully constructed.

Transportation

With extra wide sidewalks and bike paths that wind throughout the community, it is not uncommon for many of the residents to use walking and biking as their main methods of transportation within the community. Many of the neighborhoods feature alleys behind homes for rear garage parking, which makes travelling through community on foot more enjoyable, and safer. Bend Area Transit also offers several bus lines that run through Northwest Crossing, and they are a popular mode of transportation.
