Overview
Concept
One Cool Blow is a 3 building mixed-used green development located just about a mile from downtown Charleston. The development, which includes about 65 residential buildings, is known for its attention to sustainable building practices and commitment to keeping long term resident satisfaction as a high priority throughout the planning stages. The building is seeking LEED Certification.
One Cool Blow utilized several green principals during construction of the structures. The buildings are made from pre-cast concrete, which reduced energy usage and noise transmission between units. The roofs are covered in plats and vegetation, which combats the heat-island effect, limits rain water runoff and provides a pleasant view. Light colored permeable pavers make up the driveway, which also limits rainwater and heat island effects. Also, all of the landscaping around the building is made up of native plants, which require very little water and long term maintenance.
Customer satisfaction was a priority for the developers of One Cool Blow. This means in addition to the use of eco-friendly features, the developers focused on keeping the units affordable as well. The design of the development allows for each residence to have exterior exposures, which are highlighted by the inclusion of large windows, maximizing the amount of light in every unit. Interior finishes like bamboo floors were chosen both as a commitment to both the environment and the style conscious customer. Units also contain stainless steel Energy Star appliance and granite countertops in the kitchen. A recycling station is also located centrally in the building for residents use. Access to the common green roof, and sweeping views of the Charleston area are an added bonus.
Homes
Inside of the stylish building there are two different sized units available at One Cool Blow. A 785 square foot plan can be configured for 1-2 bedrooms and 1 bath. The units feature a flexible living space with lots of natural light. The kitchen is located along in interior wall, making furniture placement easy. These units start around $179,000. There is also an 1,185 square foot floorplan which offers 2-3 bedrooms and 2 baths. There is an "L" shaped kitchen with several rooms of flexible living space. Units start around $340,000. In addition to a high level of interior finishes, the units also include Juliette balconies.
Transportation
One Cool Blow is centrally located, just a few minutes from downtown Charleston. Over looking the Ravenel Bridge, and is less than a mile from the market via Meeting St. Biking or walking to town would be very easy from this location. Surrounding the building are a couple parks and some industrial space which may be used for future residential developments.
