Concept
Agave is an energy efficient neighborhood located within the Nine Sixty Nine development in East Austin.   The colorful neighborhood has become well known for its very modern design and, not surprisingly, recently won the "Best Cubist Neighborhood" award in Austin.   All homes within the neighborhood must meet at least a 3 star green rating (Austin Energy), with many exceeding.
 
Agave has also recently been named "Coolest U.S. Neighborhood" by Dryers Ice Cream. They were selected as the "coolest" due to both their energy efficient features and their innovative exterior design.
 
Neighborhood
Agave is one neighborhood in the Nine Sixty Nine community. There are two other neighborhoods within the development: The Villas and Fiore. The Villas is currently selling energy efficient live/work homes and Fiore is scheduled to begin sales soon. For more information on any of the communities at Nine Sixty Nine click the Request A Brochure button above.
 
Homes
There are 10 different architects currently building at Agave. Each architect was chosen because of their experience in modern and energy efficient design. The architects were challenged to keep home prices low, a goal which was certainly met, with homes started in the low $200's. Square footage generally ranges from 1,400 to 2,500 square feet.
 
Green features vary within each home, but many homes include:
  • Low flow water fixtures
  • Tankless water heaters
  • Concrete or bamboo floors
  • Low E Windows
  • Sustainable countertop materials
 
Many units feature strategically placed windows, designed for passive solar energy, heating homes when needed and providing abundant lighting.
 
Transportation
Agave is located just 7 miles from downtown Austin and 10 miles from the airport. Most transportation is done via automobile. The community provides easy access to Martin Luther King Blvd (Highway 969) and Highway 183.
